Paislie’s mum Charlie writes:
“My name is Charlie. I’m 26 and I have three very healthy children ages six, one and six months.
With my two eldest children, I never had any complications during pregnancy (thankfully!) with my third child Paislie, I suffered with severe thrush and water infections, so I went into hospital one night with bleeding and burning etc. and they swabbed me and told me everything should be fine, but if they find anything they will call me. A few days later, I was roughly four months pregnant, I woke up, fed my other two, just like any other normal day and was just pottering around the house, and my phone rang with an unknown number. It was the nurse who took my swab, lovely lady! She told me I had group B Strep. My heart sank, I instantly thought my unborn baby was in danger! She told me not to Google anything but curiosity killed the cat… and I fell to the floor and cried.
After I got my head around things I rang my partner and explained to him, and he was VERY supportive.
The nurses put it on my notes so everyone was aware of it. Fast-forwarding four months, my daughter then wasn’t growing right so I got induced when I was 39 weeks pregnant. The full of my labour I was put on a drip (antibiotics I believe) and my beautiful daughter was born at 2:09 pm. A very healthy baby girl 7lbs 8oz with no complications at all! We stayed in hospital for the night and we were allowed home the following afternoon.
I am so thankful that they caught my group B Strep when they did because who knows what would have happened?
