Naomi, mum to Hunter, says,
“My son contracted group B Strep sepsis and possible meningitis when he was three months old.
It started as a swelling and bruising on his neck, lack of feeding and grunting with every breath. I called an ambulance and got Hunter to A&E as quickly as possible. The first doctor to see him simply looked at the mark on his neck, which lead to a doctor blaming me for assaulting my son and refused to test for anything else.
We were then left in a side room at the hospital for four hours with no communication. All the time my son was slipping away from life, going greyer in colour, shallower slower breathing, blue lips and going cold.
I demanded a second opinion, which finally lead to blood tests. However five hours had then passed.
Things were extremely touch and go over the following weeks, I was so confused and absolutely terrified. I knew nothing about group B Strep and didn’t really have it explained. I had to do most of my research online.
Not only was I accused of harming my son which was soul destroying, the hospital wasted precious hours which could have prevented him becoming so gravely Ill.
Hunter is now an extremely happy child, however, has slight delays with a few developments.
My one piece of advice for parents is to trust your instincts when your baby is unwell.”
