Mum Zoe writes “I am a mum to three girls. My first two pregnancies I took the private home test for Strep B and tested Negative. I knew how important the test was and even with the negative tests before with my third pregnancy again I ordered my home kit, completed this at home, sent it back and waited for the results. This time it was positive and I was completely shocked I just cried because I didn’t really know what it meant.
I called the Group B Strep Support helpline who were absolutely amazing lots of great information about what was to come now that I had tested positive, who to speak to and they sent me out some leaflets to read and stickers for my maternity notes.
After speaking to the helpline I was really reassured that I knew what I had to do.
Once my labour started, I called the ward and had to go straight in to ensure that I had enough antibiotics during labour. Thankfully my labour lasted just long enough. I had all the antibiotics that were needed and my baby girl Daisy was born perfectly healthy on the 13/04/2016. We were in hospital for 24 hours for monitoring due to the Strep B but there were no issues and we were allowed home.
Daisy is now a thriving 3 year old little girl.
I’m just so pleased I made that decision to do the test and it scares me to think what the outcome could have been if I didn’t.”
