Alyx’s mum Jorgia writes, “My son, Jenson, was born with sepsis and pneumonia caused by a group B Strep infection and we spent two weeks in the Neonatal Unit whilst he received treatment. Thankfully, he made a full recovery. When I found out I was pregnant again just 7 months later I was petrified of going through it again!
I wasn’t tested for group B Strep in the second pregnancy, but I was treated like I had it. At 36 weeks I lost the fluid surrounding my baby, the doctors kept her safe and kept me in hospital, being monitored until at midnight on 37 weeks, my baby decided to make her way! I was immediately administered with antibiotics to prevent her from getting a GBS infection. I received the full dosage before my daughter, Alyx, arrived. We were kept in for monitoring for an extra day – I still felt incredibly anxious despite this.
Since we came home I have kept a close eye on her. She is now three and a half months and very healthy.”
