On Sunday 12th August, we hosted a Strep B Stomp family fun run and fun day with local supporters Ame Jenkins, Emma McCarthy & Su Newton in Nowton Park, Bury St Edmunds, to raise funds for the charity and awareness of group B Strep infections in newborn babies. It was a fabulous day with much fun had by everyone who attended.
Ame, a Volunteer Ambassador for charity Group B Strep Support, has been raising awareness of group B Strep since her daughter, Lilee May, was born in 2010. Shortly after birth, Lilee was rushed into Special Care where she was found to have group B Strep meningitis and septicaemia.
Ame said, “Ever since Lilee’s birth I have wanted to do as much as possible to raise awareness and to get people talking about group B Strep infections. Thankfully Lilee is now a healthy and happy 7 year-old, but things could have gone very differently. The Strep B Stomp was an ideal way to get all my friends and family involved and to raise funds and awareness in the area.”
Ame, Emma & Su hosted the event with support from Group B Strep Support and their Suffolk fundraising group.
Jane Plumb MBE, Chief Executive at Group B Strep Support said, “It was a wonderful family event with fun runners taking part of all ages, from tiny tots in buggies to grandparents. We are so grateful to everyone who took part, to the businesses that came along and provided entertainment and catering, and to Ame for all her hard work.”
Professional photographers Creative Pixel Photos donated their time and took fabulous pictures (available from www.creativepixelphotos.com/strep-b-stomp with 50% of the proceeds going to the charity). Family entertainment at the event included the band Less than Perfect, a Princess Moana courtesy of A Fairytale Fantasia and a soft play bus by Fun Bus Play Bus, plus face painting, food, bouncy inflatables and a raffle.
