Our team and our wonderful supporters have been working across the UK to raise awareness of group B Strep.
Our Chief Executive Jane Plumb MBE gave a lecture to 30 postgraduate medical students on group B Strep at Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry earlier this month. She also attended the National Baby Charity Network Meeting, updating members on the latest developments with group B Strep.
Our Volunteer Ambassadors have been out and about, sharing their experiences and talking about group B Strep.
Melissa Barclay
Melissa gave a presentation to the JOEL – The Complete Package ‘Life After Loss’ Conference on 27 January 2018. The audience of around 80 delegates was made up of health professionals, students, bereaved parents and related support workers and other charity groups.
Melissa spoke to the audience about group B Strep and her own personal experience. She spoke brilliantly, ‘You were inspirational’ was feedback from one of the midwives.
Jason Osborne and Amanda Barnes
Jason and Amanda spoke movingly about their daughter Mia’s death as a result of group B Strep, their son Theo, and the impact group B Strep has had on their lives to BBC Look East.
They also spoke earlier in January to Northamptonshire Telegraph, sharing their thoughts on the new GBS leaflet developed by Group B Strep Support and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

Jozef shared his family’s experience of group B Strep in his local paper, the South Wales Evening Post. He welcomed the new GBS leaflet developed by Group B Strep Support and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
Su Newton
Su chatted to the East Anglian Daily Times, sharing her family’s battle with group B Strep when her daughter Emily, now 8, developed a group B Strep infection but fortunately went on to make a full recovery.
Jackie Watt
In Scotland, bereaved gran Jackie Watt spoke to the Irvine Times about how delighted she was at the news that a leaflet on group B Strep will be provided to all pregnant women. Jackie’s granddaughter Lola died at just 20 days old after developing a group B Strep infection in 2013.
