Ahead of the 2019 general election, we’re asking parliamentary candidates to pledge their support to our #NeedToKnow campaign
As the most common cause of life-threatening infection in newborn babies, all pregnant women #NeedToKnow about the risks of carrying group B Strep.
Around 800 babies a year in the UK will develop a group B Strep infection, which can cause sepsis, pneumonia and meningitis. 50 babies will die, with another 70 survivors will be left with life-changing disabilities.
Research suggests that around a quarter of first-time mothers are completely unaware of group B Strep.
Ahead of the 2019 general election, we’re asking parliamentary candidates to pledge their support to our #NeedToKnow campaign.
The government should fund an awareness campaign ensuring that every pregnant woman is informed about the risks associated with a GBS infection and the simple steps they can take to stop newborn babies dying from these preventable infections.
