We were delighted to represent the charity at the 3rd international conference on group B Strep (known as ISSAD), held in Brazil from 16-18 October 2023. We were very grateful to the organisers, who kindly sponsored our travel and accommodation for the event.
This event brought together global experts in the field of group B Strep research and prevention to share vital knowledge and gather insights that will shape our future efforts.
Our CEO Jane Plumb MBE FRCOG FRSA co-led the Parent & Patient Voice stream, along with sitting on the Scientific Organising Committee and sharing movingly in the opening session about her own experience of her son Theo’s death as a result of group B Strep infection.
The conference embedded the voices of those affected by group B Strep, with a presentation from a parent or patient starting each conference topic stream, reminding attendees of our shared mission: to stop group B Strep infections. It was inspiring to learn about cutting-edge research for GBS prevention, including promising vaccine developments, and wonderful to meet with researchers, healthcare professionals, vaccine innovators, funders, and many more.
With keen interest from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the World Health Organisation, it’s clear that group B Strep is becoming a global priority.
