I’m delighted to share a new study I co-authored, which shows that GBS testing is both acceptable to clinicians and pregnant women/people, and feasible to deliver promptly in UK hospital settings.
While these findings aren’t the full GBS3 Trial results we’re all waiting for, they’re an important step forward. Why? Because 2026 is shaping up to be a pivotal year for early-onset GBS prevention in the UK:
- GBS3 Trial results are expected in 2026, providing crucial evidence on antenatal ECM and in-labour PCR testing.
- The UK National Screening Committee has committed to reviewing its recommendation on antenatal GBS testing once the GBS3 results are available.
- The Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists is updating its Green-top Guideline on GBS, with consultation expected late spring.
This new research reinforces that implementing GBS testing in real-world hospital settings is practical and welcomed by those involved. That’s hugely encouraging as we work towards better protection for babies.
