We are really pleased to welcome Dr Geeta Kumar OBE to the Group B Strep Support (GBSS) Clinical Advisory Panel.
The panel is a core part of how we work. It brings together clinicians from across maternity and neonatal care who help make sure our information is accurate, balanced and useful in the real world – whether that’s for families looking for clear answers or professionals making decisions about care.
Dr Kumar is a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist and was, until recently, Vice President for Clinical Quality at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG). She has a strong track record in improving the quality and safety of care for women and babies, and has contributed to UK and international guidelines and standards.
She has also worked alongside on the RCOG’s Patient Safety Committee, Guidelines Committee and a task and finish group on informed consent.
Dr Kumar has a longstanding interest in group B Strep and brings a thoughtful, practical approach to prevention, including testing and the use of intrapartum antibiotics. She is currently Lead for Women’s Services at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.
We are also delighted to share that she has recently been appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the King’s Birthday Honours, in recognition of her services to women’s health, a very deserved honour.
We’re very much looking forward to working with her and know she’ll be a real asset to the panel.
