Our CEO Jane Plumb and Advocacy and Information Manager Oliver Plumb were pleased to attend the recent launch of the 2025 Black Maternity Experiences Report by Five X More.
This report captures the lived experiences of Black women across the UK who have been pregnant or given birth in the last four years, and explores what still needs to change and improve in their care.
We know that Black babies are more likely to get group B Strep infections than white babies, and Black women are more likely to carry group B Strep bacteria than white women.
We already have evidence-based ways to prevent these infections, but awareness and access to information are not equal. We need to ensure Black women have the knowledge and support to protect their babies.
Improving maternity care for Black women helps everyone. As the report says: “Fix it for Black women, fix it for all.”
