Steps against Strep
Challenge yourself to walk 62,000 steps
between 1 July – 15 July
Get fit and raise funds at the same time!
To walk 62,000 steps in two weeks, that‘s 1,000 steps for every baby who will develop a group B Strep infection this July. Get fit and raise funds at the same time!
Kick start July’s Group B Strep Awareness Month by taking Steps against Strep between Monday 1 and 15 July 2019. You can take on the challenge alone or, better still, get your family, friends and colleagues involved. There’s no registration fee or minimum sponsorship, but we suggest a target of £100 – the more you raise the higher you will be placed on our fundraising leaderboard.
Every pound you raise, for every step you take, will help save babies’ lives.
Why every step counts
Every July, 62 babies will develop a group B Strep infection in the UK – Sophia-May is one of them.
Rebecca is just ONE of the many families we support every day. Support those families by taking part in our 62,000 steps challenge this July’s Group B Strep Awareness Month.
How we’ll support you
To help you get stepping, you’ll receive:
A welcome e-mail including hints and tips on fundraising and training along with regular updates.
Your own, personalised Give Penny fundraising page where you can log your steps and keep track of your fundraising.
Got questions about the challenge? Please email [email protected]
How to track your steps
If you’re wearing a Fitbit, it will automatically keep track of your steps and, depending on your settings, will vibrate or beep when you reach your target. You will be able to sync your FitBit to upload your steps direct to your GivePenny page.
For those without a Fitbit, there’s a range of smartphone apps available. Google Fit is a free app which tracks your steps using GPS and displays your progress throughout the day. You can then manually record your steps on your GivePenny page.
Five ways to boost your steps
The best part about the Steps against Strep challenge is that you can fit it around the things you already do every day. Why not try these tips to help you hit your 4,500 steps a day target?
- Catch up with a friend on the move, instead of over coffee.
- Take the stairs instead of the lift.
- Walk up the escalator or stairs rather than standing.
- Give the dog a month of extra walks.
- Organise a family day out on foot.
What will I get for my efforts?
Everyone who completes their 62,000 steps will receive a medal and downloadable certificate, along with the satisfaction you’ll feel from making a difference.
Those who raise £100 or more will get a medal, a downloadable certificate plus a pin badge or wristband (your choice).
We’re offering fundraisers a deep discount if they’d like to buy a GBSS t-shirt, please call us 01444 416176 or e-mail [email protected] to get the online discount code.
“I have completed the virtual challenge to Walk a Marathon in a Month which I did in memory of my Grand-daughter, Pippa Griffiths, who we lost to group B Strep infection in 2016. I am proud to have raised funds for the charity and awareness of group B Strep infection in babies. I enjoyed completing the challenge, which was also a personal challenge to myself as I am recovering from having had 2 new knee replacements . The challenge has encouraged me to keep walking!”
