Each year, Group B Strep Support joins the Baby Loss Awareness Alliance to mark Baby Loss Awareness Week, remembering babies who sadly died during pregnancy, shortly after birth or in infancy.
This year marks the 22nd Baby Loss Awareness Week in the UK. Taking place from 9-15 October, the week brings bereaved parents, families, friends and organisations together to share experiences, remember loved and missed babies, and raise awareness of the impact that baby loss can have.
It is also an opportunity to highlight the importance of compassionate bereavement support and the ongoing work to improve outcomes in pregnancy and save babies’ lives.
The week concludes with the global Wave of Light on 15 October. As part of International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day, people around the world light candles at 7pm local time to remember and honour the babies they carry in their hearts.
We know this week can bring different emotions and experiences for different people. If you have been affected by baby loss and would like support, we’re here for you. Support is available through our confidential helpline by clicking the button below.
We’ve created a safe space where you can leave a dedication in memory of your baby, share cherished photos or memories and read messages shared by other families.
This pin is to show support for babies who die before, during or after birth and their families. Wear your pin during Baby Loss Awareness Week to help raise awareness of pregnancy and baby loss, and to show remembrance and support for all those affected. Money raised from sales of these badges will go towards helping the work of Group B Strep Support.
The week draws to a close with the global ‘Wave of Light’ on Thursday 15 October 2026 at 7pm local time.
A candle to remember all the much-loved babies who died too soon. 💙💛
If you’re sharing a photo of your candle on social media, please tag @groupbstrepsupport and use #WaveOfLight. We’d love to see your candles and join you in remembering babies who died too soon. You can also find a virtual Wave of Light event here.
Read and share lived experiences 🗣️🔄
The experiences shared by members of the GBSS community offer a powerful insight into the lasting impact of pregnancy and baby loss as a result of group B Strep infection. By sharing what has happened to them, families help raise awareness, honour the babies who died too soon, and help others feel less alone.
“Albie was born on Boxing Day 2023. Shortly after his birth, he developed group B Strep meningitis, leading to a brain injury. Sadly, he passed away on 27 June 2024, leaving his family devastated.
I now advocate for change, highlighting that a simple swab test during pregnancy could have prevented my heartbreaking loss.”

While this week can be a special time of remembrance, the increase in social media activity around pregnancy and baby loss can understandably feel overwhelming for some. Do take some time out from social media during the week, if and whenever you need to.
