Congratulations to Tommy who set off on the 13.1 miles Great North Run on Sunday 10 September.
His partner Maria told us “We have been supporters of the charity since our baby Leo had a group B Strep infection when he was born in April 2021. He thankfully made a full recovery, but we have made it our mission since then to raise awareness of the symptoms of group B Strep and the private testing that is available.
When we saw that Group B Strep Support needed runners for the Great North Run, Tommy registered to complete the run and what would be his first large scale organised race. At that point he had never run a half marathon – in fact his furthest run was about half that amount – which made it all the more challenging.
I’m so proud that he completed the run in a great time, in just over 2 hours, all the while raising nearly £700 for the charity. My hope is that as people saw his t shirt during the run, they might make a mental note to check out what group B Strep is!”
