Tania shared her South Coast Ultra Challenge experience with us:-
“On 7th September myself and my good friend Jade walked 57k (36.3 miles) across the Southdowns in memory of my first son Blake, who died of GBS infection in 2009.
The weather wasn’t on our side; for two days prior, the rain poured down, making much of the terrain very slippery. There was a particularly challenging 7-mile stretch where it was difficult to remain upright, let alone walk!
However, we managed to reach our destination in the end and thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful views of the Seven Sisters and the South Downs Way.
This was an Ultra Challenge event, organised by Action Challenge, which holds these events all over the country with various distances to choose from. The events are very well run, with numerous designated rest stops offering food, drinks, and medical support if needed.
I fully recommend trying one of these. The 2025 events are now open for booking: gbss.org.uk/events/ultra-challenge-series/
We are very proud of the £2,032 we raised for GBSS and will definitely look to participate in another one of these in the future.”
