Sean signed up to participate in the Great South Run, but the 2024 event was cancelled due to the forecast of high winds and rain.
Sean shared with us:
“All the runners received notification around lunchtime on Saturday. While there was understandable disappointment, the online consensus was that people understood why the decision had been made.
However, what quickly emerged online was a real spirit of determination and community from runners all over the country. Many had overcome great personal challenges to get to the start line, and many had already raised money for some truly worthy causes. With this in mind, many of the runners donned their intended running kit and race numbers, took to their local streets over the course of Saturday afternoon and Sunday, and ran the intended 10 miles.
It was really encouraging to see so many Strava posts showing routes run, pictures of runners, and brief stories attached. The race was cancelled, but the community was well and truly alive!
