“It was my little boys 1st birthday on Saturday 7th July, I tested positive for group B Strep and received antibiotics during labour and thankfully baby was born safe and well with no complications, he was monitored for 12 hours after birth with lots of checks while we were in hospital, he was born at 10.45pm and we left to go home late afternoon next day.
We had a birthday party for him with close family on Sunday 8th July where we did a little fundraiser for GBSS. A few days before party we asked friends, family and my husbands work colleagues if they could spare £1 to either pick a name on guess the teddy bears name, pick a football team or buy a raffle ticket, we were so surprised and shocked at the support we received and kindness of everyone! We didn’t expect to raise so much.
The guess the teddy bears name and pick a football team scratch card games were brilliant. There was 88 names to choose from so we raised £48 to GBSS and £40 to the winner, and there was 20 football teams to choose from so we raised £10 to GBSS and £10 to winner, once all names and football teams were taken we scratched it off at the party and revealed the winners, it was lots of fun. Me and my husband made up a big gift bag full of lots of nice treats with sweets, biscuits, bottle of wine, candle and more this was for the 1st prize in raffle, we also made a smaller goodie bag for 2nd place and 3rd place was a large chocolate fudge cake from Costco that we bought to add as prize. We sold lots of tickets and my eldest son age 3 picked the winning raffle tickets while we videoed it.
All together after taking off the winners prize money, we have raised an amazing £150 to send to Group B Strep Support! We hope this helps toward reaching more family’s and making them group B Strep aware! Sarah, Janek, Brody (big brother) and Riley (age 1)”
