Max took part in the Yorkshire Marathon and smashed is target on Marathon Day raising £290 for Group B Strep Support.
Mas told us:- ” When our son Freddie was born it was the happiest moment of our lives. Just a few hours later he was being rushed into the intensive care unit with an infection neither of us had heard of, or been told about before. Luckily, he displayed symptoms of early onset GBS whilst still in hospital, and was treated straight away. Despite this, he still developed sepsis and became very ill. Thankfully, with treatment, he went on to make a full recovery.
I chose to run the Yorkshire marathon to raise money, and awareness, for GBS Support after the information and guidance they gave my wife towards the end of our second pregnancy. I would like to think that many more parents/parents-to-be can benefit from the great knowledge and support that the charity provides, and that, most importantly, many GBS infections in babies can be prevented.
On the day of the marathon, the weather was great, and the support from those watching was incredible. The support helped me dig in to get through those last gruelling 6 miles after I’d ‘hit the wall’ at around mile 20. Despite the tough end to the run, I completed it in 4 hours and 10 minutes.”
