On the 13 March 2022 Isabel turned 19 years old. She contracted group B Strep Meningitis around 16 hours old and was rushed to intensive care, it was touch and go for three days. After three weeks she was discharged with the results of an MRI scan indicating that she had suffered a serious ‘insult to the brain’ and was likely to have problems with vision and movement.
Mum Leesa told us “I never knew it was possible to test for group B Strep, and in fact had never heard of group B Strep during my pregnancy. At one year old she was formally diagnosed with spastic quadriplegia (cerebral palsy) and was registered blind with cortical visual impairment. She has since been diagnosed with learning difficulties, and type 1 diabetes. She cannot do anything for herself including feeding, getting dressed, sitting etc. We have had to fight for her education, support, and equipment including the off-road buggy so she can join us for walks in.”
Leesa and the family raised £167.
