Laura planned to do a family hike up Slieve Martin on the 20 February 2022 for Group B Strep Support because both her children had GBS when they were newborns.
Laura told us ” I’m so grateful for every donation and totally blown away by how much has been raised. Unfortunately with talk of storm Eunice approaching lots of people cancelled in the days and hours leading up to the hike. We made the decision not to bring the kids early that morning but thankfully some of my family are hard core hikers so were more than happy to join us.
The morning of the hike was very windy and rainy, when we arrived at Kilbrony Park it had stopped raining. We got set up in our waterproofs and by the time we started to move the rain came on. It got heavier and heavier as we moved on. Then the wind really hit, we had a few slippery moments and giggles when a few of us hit the ground, thankfully no injuries.
We just about made it to the top and could barely stand. We only lost one hat then slowly made our way down the slippery slope. With our feet, faces and bodies soaked through we decided to walk on over the ‘the big stone’ then had a quick snack and cuppa, then made our way back down to the bottom car park.
It was an experience hiking in the storm and realising waterproofs aren’t really water proof😅. I had purchased lots of snacks, drinks, and packs for the kids which didn’t get used but we are planning on having the kids day soon when the weather calms down a little more. We will meet at the top car park and walk to big stone.“
Laura’s fundraising has been hugely successful and to date has raised over £1300. If you would like to show your support you can do so here https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/lauraoneill-2022
