Cadet Justin Bennett of 561 Squadron ATC (Air Training Corps) Aberystwyth presented a cheque for £200 to Mrs Pauline Bennett for the ‘Group B Strep Support’ Charity on Wednesday 6th March 2024 at Squadron in Aberystwyth.
Mrs Bennett was delighted to accept the donation on behalf of the Charity as three family members have been affected by group B Strep. Fifteen year old Cadet Bennett who is a pupil of Penglais School also presented a second cheque for £200 to RAF Flight Lieutenant Scott Frile Officer Commanding 561 Squadron in aid of the ‘General Purpose Welfare Fund’ to help other Cadets. Justin raised the money when the cadets were asked to volunteer to run in the Aberystwyth Charity 10k by the Officer Commanding and Justin stepped up when asked.
Justin’s training programme began with one and then two miles on the university track after school, followed by running at Aberystwyth Parkrun twice and Dolgellau Parkrun where he tagged on an extra mile ready for the 10k which he ran in just over 54 minutes (Chip Time).
Justin is currently studying for GCSE’s including Sports Science and plays Basketball for the Aberystwyth Aces Team and plays Volleyball at the School Sports Hall with Aberystwyth University.
Justin attends RAF Air Cadets twice a week and at events on some weekends. Justin has flown a glider from a ground winch launch on four occasions with the RAF, as well as attending their Annual Muster and a separate Summer Camp. He has achieved a First Aid qualification which he has put to good use in an emergency and has completed other developmental badges that are on offer with the ATC.
