“We ran the Great North Run for Group B Strep Support (GBSS) in memory of our beautiful daughter, Ava, who we heartbreakingly lost to Group B Strep in 2009.
Group B Strep is the most common cause of life-threatening infection in newborn babies, yet with better awareness and testing, so many lives like Ava’s could be saved. Running this race was our way of honouring her memory, while also helping GBSS continue their vital work – raising awareness, campaigning for change, and supporting families going through the same devastating loss we faced.
Every step we took was for Ava, and for every baby and family affected by Group B Strep. Our hope is that by supporting GBSS, fewer families will have to experience the pain we did, and more babies will be given a chance to grow up healthy and safe.”
