After two families of the Senior Management team at Greenhalgh’s Craft Bakery had experienced the devastating effects of group B Strep infection there was no hesitation in recommending Group B Strep Support as one of the possible charities to run for at the 2023 Great Manchester 10K and half marathon run. A team of 56 runners took to the streets of Manchester on the 21 May raising vital awareness of group B Strep and funds for the charity. To date the fundraising total is £12,331.32
Ray, Finance Director at Greenhalgh’s Craft Bakery, shared his personal story with us. “When my grandson, Zachary, was 33 days old he developed a group B Strep infection which later turned to sepsis. We were so lucky that he received the life-saving care he needed in time. Thankfully he was well enough to return home after 10 days and later made a full recovery, but we know just how lucky we were. He is now nearly two and half years old.
The next time I was in work I found out that one of the daughters of the Managing Director had had a very similar experience when her child was born and therefore the profile of group B Strep was raised within the Greenhalgh’s community.
I realise now that this is a national quest to raise the knowledge amongst the general population.”
