Clare told us ‘What an amazing experience! This was my first Great North Run and it absolutely didn’t disappoint. After restrictions and minimal events for so long with Covid, I couldn’t wait to finally get to a proper event, never mind it actually being one of the biggest races in the country! I was absolutely honoured to run it for Group B Strep Support.
My little boy Logan who is now 7, was one of the lucky ones. I’d heard about GBS and how dangerous it could be and came across Group B Strep Support in my search for more information. They gave me information when I needed it and put my mind at rest when I was concerned. I got the antibiotics I needed in labour and Logan was observed for 48 hours to make sure he was fit and healthy due to struggling with maintaining his temperature. I owe everything to Group B Strep Support for giving me the knowledge I needed around something that is not recognised nearly as much as it should be.
I ran the race with four very good friends from my local running club. Most of us are either injured or marathon training so we took a very slow and steady approach to the race which allowed us to soak up the atmosphere (which was absolutely incredible) and made for some very smiley pics. I wore my charity vest with pride that day! Thank you so much for allowing me to help spread the word and assist in getting more people #GBSaware’.
Clare also smashed her fundraising target and raised £305 for Group B Strep Support 💙💛
