“My name is Caitlin and pictured with me here is my partner Tom and our dog Cooper who came along on some of my Marathon in a Month journeys. I first came across group B Strep when I was having some medical tests done and I was told that I carry it. I was told about the implications and dangers of it to newborn babies but that most women carry it without even knowing about it! Quite honestly, learning the potential dangers of it to babies made me worry for my future children. That is why I decided to do what I could to fundraise for and help support the charity that: provides a vital service for families who have suffered due to group B Strep and, a champion for all women to be offered the opportunity of a GBS-specific test late in pregnancy as part of their antenatal care.
I thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the Marathon in a Month Challenge. So much so that I decided to increase the challenge and complete the distance of 5 Marathons in a Month… that’s 131 Miles! One of these marathons I completed over two days (my feet have not thanked me for it!). We are very very lucky to live somewhere where we have access to beautiful scenery and many public footpaths. My advice for taking part in Marathon in a Month is to walk, cycle, swim, or however, you fancy covering the distance, somewhere you can get completely lost in mother nature because then you end up covering more distance without realising it!”
