Congratulations to Beth who set off on the 13.1 miles Great North Run on Sunday 10 September.
Beth shares her story with us ” I did the Great North Run to raise money for Group B Strep Support, it is a charity that’s very close to our hearts as my son Cruz contracted group B Strep sepsis shortly after birth. It wasn’t picked up that I was a carrier in my pregnancy as I didn’t have any symptoms. We took Cruz home thinking everything was fine but within a week of being home, I knew something wasn’t right. We had been sent away from A&E with no answers numerous times that week. He then, unfortunately, became lifeless in my arms one night, this was when they took me seriously and group B Strep sepsis was detected.
Cruz was a little fighter and got through 10 days in hospital on IV antibiotics. He is now 3 years old and has been diagnosed with Autism and Global Developmental Delay. We feel very lucky to have Cruz with us, he is a very happy and cheeky little boy. I reached out to Group B Strep Support when I was home as I was struggling to get my head around everything and they really helped me and still do if I have any questions. My heart goes out to the families who have lost a child to a group B Strep Infection.
Thank you GBSS, it was such a great day and loved every second.”
