Beni contracted early-onset group B Strep infection in 2016. At 17 hours old he began to seem unwell. Following nearly 6 weeks in NICU, scans showed a bleed to the brain and areas of damage. It was unclear what quality of life Beni would have – news devastating to parents Caroline and David:
“To think that a simple swab and some antibiotics during labour could’ve saved all the pain Beni endured was difficult to accept. I hadn’t heard of group B Strep until we were told our son had it, no one informed me about it which I find appalling.”
Beni’s parents contacted GBSS to find the answers and information they needed and now raise awareness and funds for the charity whenever they can as they would like Beni’s story to help save other families going through the same experience.
“Everyone we spoke to was so understanding. GBSS gave us clear information about the infection which helped us understand what was going on with our son.”
Caroline and David are so proud of Beni for everything he’s faced and overcome and for doing the 100K walk, he raised £355
Beni told us “I’m walking 100k to raise money for the babies who are sick like I was. People raised money when I was sick and that helped us, so I want to help others”
