Amy told us “On the 16 of September we arranged to do a charity walk for Group B Strep Support in memory of our son, Teddy, who we sadly lost in June 2023 at 5 weeks old to group B Strep sepsis.
On the day of the walk, we met at Ilkeston marketplace at 8 am, in total we believe there were around 100 walkers. We were completely blown away by how many people had come to support us. A local chip shop had opened for us and was offering sausage cobs and water in exchange for a donation to the charity.
We made it to our destination (Pride Park football ground) at around 2.45 pm. The walk was just over 9 miles long. On the day of the walk, we raised £2,255.36 just by having collection buckets which took our grand total to £9,425.49. Which is mind-blowing.
The day was bittersweet. We were overwhelmed with all the support and love that was shown to us but of course, was also incredibly sad as Teddy wasn’t here with us.
This is just the start of our fundraising attempts and raising awareness of group B Strep. We refuse to let Teddy’s death be in vain and will do everything we can to keep his memory alive and in turn, hopefully let other families know about group B Strep in pregnancy and newborn babies and the signs to look out for once their baby has been born.”
