Thank you so much for thinking about fundraising for Group B Strep Support – your support is vital.
GBSS is completely independent, and we receive no funding from the Government or the NHS, and we accept no commission from the sale of GBS tests, nor fees for referring to other organisations.
In recent years, we’ve dramatically increased our spending on raising awareness and increasing knowledge about group B Strep among health professionals – we are the Number 1 supplier of patient information to UK maternity units! This are costly, as we don’t charge for the information leaflets we send out. Every year, we organise Group B Strep Awareness Month (July), raising huge awareness among families and health professionals. We contribute to national policy consultations, support research and continue to push for more education and awareness about group B Strep among families and their health professionals. In 2015, we organised and funded a national GBS Conference, with world-class speakers, attended by over 200 health professionals.
This level of awareness raising, education and information giving is costly but vital. Unless we keep reminding key people about GBS, the issue gets ignored.
