Our little boy was born on 31st December. When he was 2 weeks old he was screaming at night and not feeding, we felt there was something wrong so rang the doctors first thing. Very annoyingly they said they didn’t have an appointment that day, but we felt that he needed to be seen so we took him to the walk in centre. Luckily he was seen quickly there as he was so young and he had a temp of 39.8 so they sent us straight to the children’s assessment unit at the hospital. Once there, they did various tests including a lumbar puncture. It was horrible hearing his screams down the corridor but the staff were brilliant. It eventually came back that he had a group B Strep infection and we were in hospital for 8 days. He had antibiotics every 8 hours intravenously. He looked too tiny to have a splint on his arm. But he made a quick recovery once antibiotics started and was back to his normal self in days. The doctors said because we got him in quickly, it really helped his recovery. The staff at Blackpool Victoria were brilliant and we can’t thank them enough.
